Out September 19 via Les Acteurs de L’Ombre Productions

A new and unnerving chapter is set to unfold from the depths of the Swiss underground. Basel-based black metal band VÍGLJÓS will release their second full-length offering, Tome II – ignis sacer, on September 19, 2025, via Les Acteurs de L’Ombre Productions, a label known for curating the darkest corners of the extreme music spectrum.

Formed in 2022, VÍGLJÓS (Old Norse for “the light just bright enough to kill a man”) has steadily evolved into a formidable four-piece featuring members from Switzerland and Germany. Their latest sonic ritual was forged at Hutch Sounds in Oberwil under the careful eye of producer Marc Obrist (Zeal & Ardor), whose attention to atmospheric detail has helped shape an album both frostbitten and fiercely alive. Accompanying the music is a visual dimension crafted by renowned fantasy artist Adrian Smith and designer Luca Piazzalonga.

Though their roots are clearly entwined with the Norwegian Second Wave. Think Darkthrone, Immortal, early Ulver. VÍGLJÓS is bringing a distinct voice to the genre. Their sound is marked by blistering tremolo picking and tortured vocals, but also by eerie mellotron passages, moody synths, and subtle injections of rock’n’roll swagger. It’s black metal with cinematic reach, which is burning, and deeply immersive.

VÍGLJÓS has already begun turning heads with their unforgettable live performances, which they describe as an “auditory, visual, and olfactory experience.” Tome II – ignis sacer aims to channel that atmosphere into a studio release that doesn’t just demand your attention – it consumes it.

“Tome II – ignis sacer” will be coming out on September 19 via Les Acteurs de L’Ombre Productions in CD/LP and DIGITAL formats and is now available for pre-order at THIS LOCATION
